PET LOSS
Should I Get Another Pet After Losing One?
People want me to give them permission to bring another animal home, or to tell them it is too soon. That decision is yours, and I will not make it for you; what a reading can do is tell you how the animal who passed feels about it.
That is yours to decide, and I will not decide it for you. Not when, not whether. I do not tell people they are ready, and I do not tell them they are betraying the one they lost by opening the door again. Both of those are private, and neither belongs to me. What a reading can actually do is different and smaller and, for many people, the thing they were really asking. It can tell you how the animal who passed feels about it.
Why the decision is not mine to make
People want me to give them permission, one way or the other. Tell me it is too soon. Tell me it is time. I understand the wish. Grief wants a rule so it can stop arguing with itself. But there is no correct interval, and anyone who hands you one is guessing dressed up as authority. Some people bring an animal home within weeks and it is right. Some wait years and that is right too. The calendar is not the measure. Your own steadiness is, and only you can feel that from the inside.
So I will not overrule you on the one question that is genuinely yours. What I can do is take one worry off the pile, because it is a worry I can actually put to the animal who left.
What the animal who passed can tell you
The fear underneath this question is usually not logistics. It is loyalty. People are afraid that loving a new animal will feel like replacing the old one, or that the one who passed would feel pushed aside. That is a question I can carry into a Rainbow Bridge reading and ask directly.
In the readings I have done, animals do not treat love as a fixed quantity that runs out. When I have asked one who has crossed about the human bringing home another, the answer has not come back as jealousy. More often it comes back as something closer to relief, that the house will be full again, that the person will have a warm body to come home to. I am not promising you will hear that. I am telling you it is what I have heard, and that it is worth asking rather than assuming.
What my own animals taught me about this
In 2020 a Labrador named Bella came home. For years before her, and still now, I have fed the community dogs of Shantigram twice a day, more than fifty of them. I have lost some of those dogs. I have grieved them and kept feeding the ones still living, and the two things did not cancel each other. Loving the next dog at the gate never subtracted from the one who was gone. It is not a replacement.
I trained by my guru so that I could tune to frequency with discipline instead of guesswork, and I ask Archangel Metatron to mark the boundary of what I am permitted to receive before I open. But this particular lesson, that love does not run dry, I learned at a food bowl long before I learned it in a reading.
It is the same love finding somewhere to keep going.
A man who thought a new pup was a betrayal
A client had been offered a pup and felt sick with guilt at wanting him, as if saying yes meant forgetting the dog he had buried. He asked me to ask her. What came back was not permission exactly, and not a lecture. It was a picture of her watching a smaller dog make the same mess she used to make, and something like amusement in it. He took the pup. I want to be clear I did not tell him to. He decided. I only asked the question he could not ask himself, and reported what came.
Signs to sit with, not rules to obey
A few honest things to notice, none of them a verdict. If the thought of a new animal brings only dread and no warmth at all, that is worth respecting for now. If it brings warmth tangled with guilt, the guilt may be the thing to look at rather than a reason to wait. If you are looking for the new animal to be the old one returned, that is a weight no puppy can carry, and it is kinder to both of you to notice it first. If your home, your time, and your money can actually hold an animal today, that practical yes matters as much as the emotional one.
These are not a test you pass or fail. They are things to sit with. The decision stays yours after you have sat with all of them.
How a reading fits, if you want one
If the loyalty question is the one holding you still, a Rainbow Bridge reading can put it to the animal who passed. If you have already brought a new animal home and want to understand who they are and what they need, that is a living-animal animal communication session instead. And if you are still deep in the grief itself, how do I forgive myself after my pet died may need to come before any decision about what comes next.
