Akashic Records, Tarot, and Astrology: How They Actually Differ

They are three different instruments pointed at three different questions. Astrology reads the sky you were born under. Tarot reads the moment in front of you. The Akashic Records read the book of your soul for this lifetime. People ask me which one is true, as if only one can be. That is the wrong question. They answer different things, and I only read one of them. Here is how they actually differ, said plainly and with respect for all three.

What astrology reads

Astrology works from the map of the sky at the moment you were born, and from how the planets move over that map through your life. A good astrologer reads placement and timing, the seasons of a life, the tendencies you came in wired for. It is a system with centuries of structure behind it, and in the right hands it is precise about cycles and character. I am not an astrologer, so I will not pretend to its craft. What I can say is that it reads the pattern of the heavens as it touches you, from the outside in.

What tarot reads

Tarot reads the present moment and what is moving through it. The reader lays the cards, and the cards give a language of images to name what is already in motion around a question, the pressures, the choices, the likely turn if nothing changes. A skilled tarot reader is doing real intuitive work through that deck. It is close-in and responsive, good for “what is happening here, and what should I watch.” It reads the now. It does not claim to open the ledger of your soul, and it does not need to. That is not its job.

What the Akashic Records read

The Records are not a deck and not a chart. I was taught to think of them as a metaphysical library held in the Akasha, with a book for every soul who has ever lived. I open your book for this lifetime, with permission, through the Pathway Prayer Process my guru trained me in. I read soul patterns, the recurring themes across the years of this life, the contracts and agreements you made before you came in, sometimes an imprint from an earlier lifetime that is bleeding into this one and needs to be named. It reads from the inside, from the record your soul is keeping, not from the sky above you or the cards on the table.

The difference in one breath

Here is the honest short version. Astrology answers “what was I born under and what season am I in.” Tarot answers “what is moving right now and where might it go.” The Akashic Records answer “what did my soul come here to do, and what pattern do I keep living.” That is the load-bearing distinction. None of them reads all three at once, whatever the reader promises.

What I will not claim about any of them

I read only the Records, in the tradition I was trained in. I will not stand here and tell you tarot is shallow or astrology is superstition. I have seen both do real good for people, and the readers I respect in each are doing careful work. What I will not do is pretend one tool answers everything. A reader who tells you her instrument covers the sky, the moment, and the soul all at once is selling you certainty, not truth. Each of these has a scope. Mine is the record of your soul for this lifetime, and I stay inside it.

How a client sorted out which one she needed

A woman came to me after a year of monthly tarot readings. She loved them, and they had helped her through a hard patch, but she said the same worry kept surfacing no matter how the cards fell. When we opened her record, what showed was not a moment at all. It was a pattern she had carried across her whole life, a contract about caretaking she had made long before this year’s troubles. The tarot had been reading her weather honestly, week by week. The record read the climate underneath it. She did not stop her tarot readings. She just finally understood why the same cloud kept returning.

Which one should you choose

Choose by the question. If you want to understand your temperament, your cycles, the timing of a season in your life, an astrologer is your person. If you want to read the moment in front of you and the choice inside it, tarot is close and quick and good at that. If the question is deeper, why do I keep living this same pattern, what did my soul agree to, what is this bond really carrying, that is when the Records are the right instrument, and that is the work I do.

You do not have to pick a side in some contest between them. I have clients who keep an astrologer and a tarot reader and come to me for the soul-level questions neither was built to answer. Different instruments, different questions. That is all it ever was.

Come to the Records when the question is your soul’s. Go to the others when it is not. All three deserve the respect of being used for what they actually do.
